Der ungarische Geiger, Kammermusiker, Dirigent und Lehrer Sándor Végh (1912-1997) zählt ohne Zweifel zu den bedeutendsten Musikerpersönlichkeiten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Auch zu Zeiten seiner aktiven Solistenkarriere gab es nur wenige Phasen, in denen er nicht in einem Streichquartett oder einem anderen Kammerensemble spielte. Auf diese Weise wurde der Ausnahmekünstler sowohl als Solist als auch am Dirigentenpult von einer kammermusikalischen Herangehensweise geprägt. Auf dem Label BMC sind erstmals seltene Aufnahmen aus den Jahren 1948 bis 1952 zu hören, die Végh als Kammermusiker dokumentieren: als Solist, mit seinem Quartett und im Ensemble.
