Voor Anna Maria is Jezus de poort naar het paradijs. Tijdens haar dagelijkse bedevaartstocht gaat ze van deur tot deur, met een standbeeld van de maagd Maria. Op een dag komt haar man, een Egyptische moslim, na jaren afwezigheid weer thuis en ontketent zo een heilige oorlog binnen de huiskamer. Gebeden worden voortaan onderbroken door hilarische ruzies. Anna Maria moet kiezen tussen haar huwelijk en haar onvoorwaardelijke liefde voor Jezus.
