This latest disc from the Royal Concertgebouw's own label documents the performances of new works that the orchestra gave last year. Moritz Eggert's Number 9 VI: A Bigger Splash is a jazz-imbued response to David Hockney's most famous painting; Colin Matthews's Turning Point is a typical mixture of approachability and invention; Theo Verbeij's LIED turns a solo trombone into a quasi-singing voice in wordless "settings" of unspecified poems; and Detlev Glanert's Theatrum Bestiarum, first premièred in an earlier version at the 2005 Proms, is a visceral 20 minutes of incident and orchestral ingenuity.
