PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Ever since the release of their debut album 'Outro Lado', the music of Zuco 103 has been acclaimed as one of the most exciting bands to mix electronics and Brazilian music. They continue to push musical boundaries with their second album which draws its inspiration from traditional Brazilian rhythms and melodies, R'n'B, electronic beats, jazz and afro-beat, and manages to be simultaneously sophisticated and explosive, danceable and listenable, silky and angular, innovative and catchy.
'Tales of High Fever' showcases Zuco 103's spectacular development as producers and songwriters, withits strong melodies, infectious choruses and socially aware, philosophical and emotive lyrics. The overall sound draws on the jazz roots of Stefan K and Stefan S who have combined this with live jams, programming and sampling as well as traditional composing/arranging skills. The effervescent vocalist Lillian Vieira has contributed her knowledge of the rich traditions of Brazilian music and her charisma as a natural performer and melodist.
Zuco 103 are a mesmerizing and exciting live band and have been setting audiences on fire all across Europe with their brilliant mix of live and electronic rhythms. Zuco 103 have now infused some of the raw, electric power of their live show into this album, blending in their signature electronic and Rhodes sounds with an array of acoustic instruments: guitars, harp, and even full horn and string sections performing superb arrangements on several tracks.
The album was mixed by Luke Gordon aka Spacer, who has worked as a producer/mixer for the likes of Red Snapper, Alison Goldfrapp, Coldcut and Stereo MCs. It is released on Ziriguiboom, the label dedicated to new Brazilian music, which has also brought you the sensational 'Tanto Tempo' by Bebel Gilberto. The limited edition 2LP vinyl (also available from Amazon.co.uk) includes a bonus track "Noite 2002".

Tales of High Fever is a more mature and substantial record than 2000's still delightful Outro Lado; it expands Zuco 103's blend of tropical rhythms and airy electronics, adding a light but insistently funky undertow. Featuring Brazilian vocalist Lilian Vieira, German keyboardist/programmer Stefan Schmid and Dutch drummer/programmer Stefan Kruger, this truly global line-up knows how to explore an edgy and intoxicating groove. The lead track, "Treasure", starts things off with a cool breeze of tropical funk, with Vieira's playful vocals wafting over a popping electronic bass. "Peregrino" sounds like a South American version of funk-era Talking Heads with James Brown's horn section sitting in; "Tao Lonely" is dry as a bone drum & bass electro-pop; "Brazil 2000" is a fabulously dancefloor ready 21st-century bossa nova. But it's the expansive "Saci" and the tight, complex funk of "Curso de Reclamacao" that really shows Zuco 103 stretching in new ways that go beyond the dance floor into more sublime territory.
