Detective Robin Griffin keert terug naar Sydney om haar leven opnieuw op te bouwen. Maar al gauw verandert de rust wanneer het lichaam van een Aziatisch meisje aanspoelt op Bondi Beach. Griffin vermoedt dat ze niet alleen stierf dus pakt ze de zaak op. Het jonge meisje weekt echter een storm aan emoties los bij Robin aangezien ze zelf haar pasgeboren kind jaren geleden heeft moeten opgeven. Ze is er dan ook op gebrand zelf haar dochter terug te vinden. Hoe dichter ze bij de identiteit van “China Girl” komt, des te dichter komt ze bij de donkerste geheimen van haar eigen hart.
