Past, Present, Future

At the age of sixteen Simon Bonney formed Crime and the City Solution in an abandoned building in Sydney's business district. His first concert was performed to puzzled office workers on their lunch break. The band embodied the post punk ethos of nihilism and alienation, and Simon's lyrics and music were informed in part by life as a fourteen-year-old runaway in 1970s Kings Cross, Sydney's red-light district. A band at odds with Sydney life, Crime eventually imploded and Simon fled to Melbourne, into the arms of the burgeoning Melbourne underground. There he would meet Bronwyn Adams, his future wife and long-time collaborator, and they would become runaways together. An exile in residence, he formed a new line-up and began playing regular shows to the growing post punk scene. When the band broke up in 1980, he withdrew from music and the world. Twenty-five years later, the best of all three solo recordings, Forever, Everyman, and the unreleased Eyes of Blue, are finally available on Simon Bonney's forthcoming, Past, Present, Future, with an album of new material to follow in late 2019.
