César Cui (1835–1918) — a member of the Mighty Handful of Russian composers, whose elegant piano miniatures reveal a lyrical, Central-European Romantic style influenced by Chopin and Schumann. This first recording of his piano works (1877–1888) by Marco Rapetti features mazurkas, serenades, and suites dedicated to Liszt and the Countess de Mercy-Argenteau, who championed his music in Europe.
