Imagine a world where Cuban-rooted Latin music, rather than rock, dominated late 20th-century American popular culture. Mambo and Latin music were indeed massive at one point, particularly in East (Spanish) Harlem and the Bronx. These areas were New York's melting pots of Latin music and home to its biggest figures, including bandleaders Harvey Averne and Fania Records owner Jerry Masucci. Bobby Pauneto, with Spanish Catalan heritage on his mother's side and Italian on his father’s, was raised in the Bronx amidst these vibrant sounds that shaped his career and passion.

He signed with Sidney Siegel’s Seeco label and recorded 8 tracks in 1965, all compiled here for the first time. The second side of this exclusive playlist includes Cal Tjader’s tribute track ‘Pauneto’s Point’, alongside recordings that influenced Bobby Pauneto through the 50s and 60s, helping to contextualize the sounds of Latin New York and Bobby's unique musical style.
