Don Cherry and drummer Ed Blackwell's legendary "Mu" sessions were recorded on the same day, and over fifty years later, they continue to resonate with fresh and innovative sounds. Both musicians, known for their work with Ornette Coleman, brought a revolutionary spirit to the free jazz movement of the late '50s and early '60s. Their intuitive approach to improvisation, coupled with Cherry’s exploration of folk music from diverse cultures, lends the "Mu" recordings a spiritual depth and undeniable originality.

Inspired by his global travels and continual musical explorations, "Mu" Second Part showcases Cherry on Indian and bamboo flutes, piano, bells, and his trademark pocket trumpet. The album references influences such as South African musician Abdullah Ibrahim, aka Dollar Brand, and jazz drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath, in tracks described by writer Ekkehard Jost as "unpredictable and endlessly fascinating."
