Alexander the Great

Richard Burton stars as the eponymous Macedonian general and king in this historical epic written and directed by Robert Rossen. The son of King Philip II of Macedon (Fredric March) and Olympias (Danielle Darrieux), Alexander is tutored by Aristotle (Barry Jones) as a young man and dreams of living a short and glorious life rather than a long life without renown. When he succeeds his father, he unites the Greeks and embarks on a mission to conquer Asia. By the age of 30, his empire extends from Greece to northwestern India but death finds him only two years later. The cast also includes Claire Bloom, Harry Andrews and Peter Cushing.
