Legendary martial arts master Ip Man (Chau-Sang) travels to Hong Kong several years after the resolution of the Second World War, a conflict which struck his home in China and his family hard. With almost nothing but the clothes on his back, Ip Man is taken in by a friend. Before long, many of his new acquaintances, including a local policeman, a waitress and the leader of his friend's union, come to the venerable master seeking training. Each of them wants his help for different reasons, some of which will draw Ip Man himself back into the primary use of his honed skills.
