Der 1954 in Maryland geborene John Stamp - gemeinhin als „Jack“ bekannt - ist sowohl als Dirigent als auch als Komponist eine bekannte Figur in der sinfonischen Blasorchesterbewegung, die an den amerikanischen Universitäten floriert. Doch der Klang der in Großbritannien bekannten Brass-Bands hat ihn schon lange begeistert, und seine Zusammenarbeit mit Blechbläsern auf beiden Seiten des Atlantiks - insbesondere mit der Lake Wobegon Brass Band aus Minneapolis, die ihren Namen von Garrison Keillors fiktiver Stadt in Minnesota hat - hat eine Reihe von Werken hervorgebracht, die Elemente der britischen Bläsertradition an das Publikum im Mittleren Westen der USA herantragen und ihnen einen eingängigen rhythmischen Swing verleihen.
