In the time of the Roman Emperor Domitian, Christians are ruthlessly persecuted throughout the Roman empire. As a witness to these persecutions, John is divinely inspired to write a series of revelations about the Second Coming of Christ and Judgement Day, and his continued survival makes him a figurehead of resistance and gives spiritual courage to the persecuted Christians.
