The plot is centred around the Shimogamo family - brothers Yasaburo (voice of Takahiro Sakurai), Yaichiro (Junichi Suwabe), Yajiro (Hiroyuki Yoshino), Yashiro (Mai Nakahara) and their mother (Kikuko Inoue), who are all tanuki, beings who can transform into humans, animals or objects. The boys' father was killed and cooked in a hot pot by the Friday Fellows, a social group of tengu, creatures who roam the sky. When Yasaburo meets Benten (Mamiko Noto), a human who was raised as a tengu, he is taken with her despite her association with the club. Elsewhere, Yaichiro, who hopes to be elected as the next tanuki leader, discovers one of his brothers may have been involved in his father's death.
