The most comprehensive tribute to Ossy Renardy whose career spanned only two decades, abruptly truncated by a car accident American Strad Magazine defined him "one of the most brilliant of our young violin virtuosos" His first recording of Paganini’s 24 Caprices, the world’s première recording of the complete work, shows Renardy’s phenomenal technique for a young, mainly self-taught 20 year old Gramophone's obituary of March 1954 said: "At thirty-three he seemed destined to don the mantle of his compatriot Kreisler, whose style of playing was not dissimilar" Conductor Charles Munch proclaimed: “There is only one word to describe him: perfection. He has everything—style, technique, and tone, combined in the most splendid manner.” Renardy was certainly a formidable, talented violinist; yet unknown to many. We should say that anyone who can play Ernst or Paganini like him, who was virtually self-taught, needs to be paid attention.
