Paving the way for every comedian that followed, the late Bill Hicks was a subversive and controversial presence behind the microphone during his brief but blisteringly important career. A regular guest with US TV chat-show host David Letterman from 1984 to 1993, Hicks' material - which included no-holds-barred takedowns of everything from religion to politics - frequently troubled the TV censors, leading to one of his entire routines being banned from broadcast after it was recorded. Finally aired in its entirety 15 years following Hicks' death, the routine was the last appearance the then ailing comic would film for Letterman. Covering a decade's worth of guest spots, this collection features stand-up routines and candid interviews, and amounts to an essential chronicle of the work of one of the most vital voices the comedy world has ever produced.
