The film follows Peter Turner (Bell), a young British actor who enters into a passionate relationship with award-winning Hollywood leading lady Gloria Grahame (Bening). Despite being many years her junior, Peter forms a strong bond with Gloria and remains close friends with her long after their affair has ended.
