Do not adjust your screen!Instead prepare yourself for a mind-bending sonic assault as Cabaret Voltaire perform live at London's famous Town And Country Club in 1992.Pioneers of techno,industrial,sample-based electronica,Cabaret Voltaire successfully blurred the line between music and performance art.The tracks performed in this DVD highlight Cabaret Voltaire's spirit of experimentation as classics like The Message and Plasticity 6 are given unique twists and also features snippets of Steve Lamacq interviewing both Kirk and Mallinder. While bands such as Kraftwerk,New Order and The Orb achieved greater notoriety within the genres,Cabaret Voltaire's longevity, influence and experience has ensured they are without doubt a cornerstone in the history of electronic and industrial music.Hailing from the steel city of Sheffield,England,it is perhaps no surprise that Cabaret Voltaire were trailer blazers in the development of industrial and experimental electronic music.Formed in 1973 the group originally consisted of Stephen Mallinder,Richard H.Kirk and Chris Watson and took their name from the Swiss nightclub famous for being the centre of the early Dada art movement. Their early work was a journey into the relative unknown, widely experimenting with new sounds and technics that wrote the blueprint for the rise and evolution of industrial music. In 1978 they signed to Rough Trade Records, where they released numerous singles and albums including Nag Nag Nag and The Voice Of America(1980)and Red Mecca in 1981.After several years of touring across Europe and Japan, the group(now minus Chris Watson)decided on a more commercial approach and landed a contract with Some Bizzare/Virgin Records in 1983.The move worked as the album The Crackdown reached number 31 in the UK Albums Chart thanks in part to a more dance-orientated sound.1984's Micro-Phonies also charted and spawned two hit singles Sensoria and James Brown.A growing underground dance scene and the emergence of house music added to Cabaret Voltaire's popularity as the music industry seemed to catch up with their groundbreaking sound.By the late 80s and early 90s the band had begun to wain, with Mallinder and Kirk both pursuing solo projects.Artists:Richard H.Kirk-keyboards,Stephen Mal Mallinder-vocals,bass and FX.Track Listing:1.
