The Live From London series proudly presents the Stranglers performing at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. Emerging from the punk explosion of the late seventies, the Stranglers have proved to be one of the most durable groups of that era. This concert includes the classic hit singles of one of the most successful British acts of all time, together with a selection of Stranglers live favourites. Accompanied by the Electra String Orchestra, this 90 minute performance features the hits Golden Brown, Always The Sun and No More Heroes. Everyone knows a Stranglers song, and it's no surprise why when you consider that the UK's longest running punk band have notched up over 20 top 40 singles and 17 top 40 albums in the UK alone in a career spanning five decades. Formed in 1974 the Guildford Stranglers, as they were then known, began their career treading the familiar path of the local pub and club scenes in and around Surrey and by 1975 had left Guildford and Surrey behind them as the Stranglers headed for London. The capital was experiencing a shift in power both politically and musically, as rock began to give way to the rise in the popularity of punk and the Stranglers were quick to establish themselves as a driving force in the movement. By 1976 they were supporting the Ramones and Patti Smith in their respective London shows to rave reviews but they were not without their critics. Questions over the perceived sexist and racist content in their lyrics meant their relationship with the press and media would forever be a rocky one. Combined with their on and off stage antics, the Stranglers were now regarded as one of the leading punk bands, but their music betrayed their punk tag as they drew influences from rock, new wave and pop. By the 80s the Stranglers were a regular feature in both the UK single and album charts with hits such as Golden Brown, Strange Little Girl and Always The Sun, songs that propelled the band to a global audience. It was a decade that proved the high-water mark for the band as the 1990s brought personnel changes and a decline in sales and popularity. Despite the lack of chart success, the Stranglers continued to record and tour around the world, albeit with some unfamiliar faces to those who had followed the band from their early punk days. The Stranglers are now into the fifth decade of their illustrious career, testament to the quality of their music and passion of their dedicated fans. At the time of writing this, the band are looking at plans for a 2013 tour and who's to say they won't still be touring in another 10 years time? Track Listing: 1. Waltzinblack 2.
