The Holy Land, 1187. When dedicated warrior monk of the Knights Templar, Rene, is captured in battle, he escapes into the desert. He is saved in starvation by Hasan, a mysterious Muslim traveller. The two take refuge in an isolated oasis, the home of Soheila, where the wounded Hasan is nursed to health. As he waits for Hasan's injuries to heal, Rene finds himself tempted by the simple pleasures of a life free from the ravages of war. His growing attraction for Solheila, together with news of atrocities commited by the Christian and Muslim armies lead him to question his vows of chastity and his commitment to the crusader ethos. But Hasan holds a long-buried secret that will bring devastation to them all - igniting a violent cataclysm that will change the lives of Rene and Hasan irrevocably.
