Frustrated with her life at home, nurse Lillie Rowe (Hilmar) leaves the United States and heads to a remote mission in the Ottoman Empire to link up with American doctor Jude (Hartnett). Desperate to utilise her talents in an environment where she can make a difference, Lillie ignores the dangers and journeys across the volatile countryside to reach Jude's remote hospital. However, when she falls in love with Ismail (Huisman), a lieutenant in the Ottoman Imperial Army, Lillie is soon forced to make some difficult decisions as war breaks out and she finds herself torn between her loyalty to Jude and her new love. The cast also includes Ben Kingsley, Haluk Bilginer and Affif Ben Badra.
