Marty en Doc zijn nog maar net bijgekomen van hun eerste tijdreis avontuur, als ze zich opnieuw in het ruimte – tijdcontinuüm begeven. Maar dit keer proberen ze in het jaar 2015 de toekomst bij te stellen. Hierdoor blijkt Hill Valley in 1985 echter te zijn veranderd in een bijna onherkenbaar, bizar stadje, waar pestkop Biff Tannen rijk en machtig is en……Marty’s vader! Nu kunnen ze het heden alleen nog rechtzetten door opnieuw terug te gaan naar 1955. Maar kunnen Doc en Marty het verleden herstellen zonder dat er een tijdparadox ontstaat die het universum aan flarden scheurt?
