Trilogy of 1980s American horrors. In 'Poltergeist' (1982) the Freeling family are terrorised by restless supernatural forces in their suburban Californian home. When the youngest daughter, Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke), gets sucked into the television screen, her desperate parents call in a team of parapsychologists and an eccentric psychic for assistance. In 'Poltergeist II - The Other Side' (1986) the Freeling family are recuperating with Grandma Jess (Geraldine Fitzgerald) in Arizona one year on from their terrifying ordeal. She recognises a fellow clairvoyant in little Carol Anne, but when the old woman dies, the spirits descend once more to claim the girl for their side. Finally, in 'Poltergeist III' (1988) Carol Anne has been sent to a special school for gifted but emotionally disturbed children whilst living with her aunt and uncle in Chicago. The evil spirit of Revered Henry Kane (Nathan Davis) is still trying to lure her to the other side, however, so medium Tangina (Zelda Rubinstein) stands guard to protect her.
