After receiving a package containing a severed leg at his office, private detective Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke) uses his skills as a former Royal Military Special Investigation Branch and delves into his past to find the perpetrator. Suspecting someone from a past case may harbour a vendetta against him, Strike draws up a list of suspects with help from his secretary Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger). But when he begins his investigation and tracks down his first lead, Strike is arrested after being framed for murder. Can he prove his innocence and find the real culprit?
