Carl Allen è un impiegato divorziato orgogliosamente chiuso nella sua solitudine e insensibile alle richieste altrui. I clienti gli chiedono un prestito e lui lo nega, gli amici gli chiedono compagnia e lui si tira indietro, cercando di farsi bastare un dvd sul divano.
