Comedy mockumentary following the ups and downs of five participants in the annual Burns poetry recital competition. As the time draws near for the awarding of the 2009 Cup o' Kindness trophy, the pressure mounts for the five remaining competitors; 12 year-old Hayley Braid complete with competitive mum, Isobel (Ashley Jensen); official representative of the Dumfries Burns Society, Struan Robertson (Paul Higgins); resettled, enthusiastic Englishwoman Paula Pickford (Felicity Montagu); slow-witted local gardener Robert Lauchlan (Greg Hemphill); and rehabilitated culture vulture, prisoner Stevie Kerr (Tony Curran).
