Cary Joji Fukunaga writes and directs this US war drama based on the novel by Uzodinma Iweala. In West Africa, young Agu (Abraham Attah) is forced to join a group of rebel fighters when his country descends into civil war. Captured by the Commandant (Idris Elba) when he is separated from his family, Agu undergoes a brutal initiation into the group of guerrilla fighters. Under the watchful eye of the Commandant, Agu is forced to experience the horrors of war as he transforms into a ruthless freedom fighter.
