Around the World in 80 Days

Victor Young was one of the top film score composers of all time, with his work garnering no fewer than 22 Academy Award nominations during the course of his career. Only one would go on to win, and even that was a posthumous award, for his work on Around The World In 80 Days, which has led to endless speculation that it was a sentimental award. On the evidence of this particular soundtrack, sentimental or not it was still thoroughly deserved. No one is better able to conjure up musical images of France or India or the many other countries quite like Victor Young. It won the Best Original Score award simply because it was just that, the best original score.
