After a very public rise and fall in the spotlight, the "daughter of darkness" grasps her bootstraps to invite you in to meet the real Kelly Osbourne. She has grown up and matured into the recording artist that is seemingly in her blood. "Sleeping in the Nothing" offers a combination of 80's dance club soundtracks married with emotional lyrical content. Veteran songwriter Linda Perry (Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Pink) co-wrote and produced the sessions. Veteran remixer Chris Cox (formerly of Thunderpuss) has prepared remixes of key tracks for single releases. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised!

Kelly Osbourne, die sich noch auf ihrem ersten Album Changes bzw. Shut Up, ganz wie es das Image des Osbourne-Clans verlangt, als eher halbstarke Rockgöre präsentierte, hat sowohl ihr Aussehen als auch ihre Musik komplett verändert. Sleeping In The Nothing ist fast lupenreiner New-Wave-Pop, mit starken Anklängen an die achtziger Jahre, ohne das die Platte dadurch auch nur eine Sekunde nostalgisch klingen würde.

Produziert hat die zehn Songs Linda Perry (Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Courtney Love), die über genügend Erfahrung verfügt, um alle musikalischen Untiefen, die so eine komplette Neuorientierung mit sich bringt, sorgfältig zu umschiffen. Damit auch jeder kapiert, das die neue Kelly Osbourne mit der alten nicht mehr viel zu tun hat, stellt sie mit One World, zugleich die erste Singleauskopplung, einen Song an den Anfang des Albums, der klingt, als würden Visage ("Fade To Grey") auf die Eurythmics und Kim Wilde treffen. Sehr charmant und trotz der massiven Verweise auf den klassischen Synthesizerpop der achtziger Jahre erstaunlich vital. Mit ähnlicher Unbekümmertheit meistert Kelly Osbourne auch die anderen neuen Songs. Auch wenn sie stimmlich nicht immer mithalten kann, passt ihre Stimme perfekt zu Nummern wie dem ein wenig von den Bangles inspirierten "Uh Oh" oder dem supernervösen "Edge Of Your Atmosphere". Auch wenn jetzt nicht jeder Titel gleich ein Volltreffer ist, mit Sleeping In The Nothing ist Kelly Osbourne ein unterhaltsames Album gelungen, das mühelos 30 Jahre Popmusikgeschichte abdeckt. --Norbert Schiegl
