PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The award-winning documentary Cinema Komunisto takes us on a fascinating journey through the crumbling remains of Tito's film industry, exploring the rise and fall of the former Yugoslavia through the movies made under its Communist leader.
Using rare footage from dozens of forgotten Yugoslav films and never-before-seen archive from film sets and Tito's private screenings, the film recreates the story of a country that has since disappeared.
Richard Burton, Sophia Loren and Orson Welles star in super-productions financed by the state and we meet those closest to Tito: the personal projectionist who showed him films every night for 30 years; his favourite film director and actor; and the studio boss, with links to the secret police. All tell how the history of Yugoslavia was constructed on the screen.
When reality has a different script to your films, who wouldn t invent a country to fool themselves?
DVD extras include
44 minutes of bonus features, including ten bonus scenes, premiere footage, photo gallery, trailer, director's commentary, director's video diary and an interview with scholar Daniel J. Goulding on Yugoslav cinema
