South East Essex has been a hotbed of creative talent since the beat boom in the early 1960s. The huge influx of tourists and day trippers to Southend on Sea meant a need for entertainment options, resulting in a disproportionately large amount of music venues in the area. Venues needed bands, and by 1965, there were 50+ semi professional groups gigging hard in the area. Little wonder that so much talent has developed on the 'North Thames Delta'. 60 Years of the Southend Scene celebrates that talent and has cherrypicked a selection of great tracks spanning the decades, from the early 1960s through to artists at the very beginning of their musical journey.
Avoiding the familiar 'Hits', we have presented a colourful and interesting selection of songs to educate and entertain.
