The first series of the royal drama, which aims to reveal the dysfunctional side to the world's most famous family. The show begins with Prince Richard IV's (Rupert Evans) sudden accession to the throne following the unexpected death of his father. Dearly loved by the nation, King James III (Valentinas Klimas) left behind his devoted wife, Her Majesty Queen Charlotte (Jane Asher) and three other children: Princess Eleanor (Sophie Winkleman), Prince George (Sebastian Armesto) and Princess Isabelle (Nathalie Lunghi). The young King Richard now finds himself under immense pressure. He is a free-spirited individual with modern ideas about how the Monarchy should exist in the 21st century and he desperately wants to succeed. But the press can't get enough of his youthful indiscretions and his family are at war. What's a young monarch to do?
