When Irishman Liam (Karl Geary) arrives in New York in search of distant relative Seamus, he ends up talking to bartender Mario (James Belushi). Seamus has long since departed for Hawaii, but Mario introduces Liam to fellow Irishman Owen (Jared Harris), with whom he finds lodgings. Dodging the immigration authorities at every turn, Liam works as a builder by day and carouses in Mario's bar by night. For a time he finds love and happiness, but tragedy lurks just around the corner.
