Lee Evans stars in this television adaptation of the HG Wells classic, directed by Gillies MacKinnon. Alfred Polly (Evans), a humble draper's assistant, grows tired of his life and takes to the road, leaving behind his dead-end job and loveless marriage to Miriam (Anne-Marie Duff). After failing even in his attempt to commit suicide, Alfred decides to embark on the pursuit of happiness with the delightful Nancy (Julie Graham).
