Ria (Wendy Craig) is a frustrated housewife, who feels that her dentist husband Ben (Geoffrey Palmer) and two teenage sons Russell and Adam (Nicholas Lyndhurst) are taking her for granted. When she meets handsome, flirtatious businessman Leonard (Bruce Montague), Ria begins to hope that he will sweep her off her feet in a passionate affair.that somehow never quite materialises. Meanwhile, Ben and Russell break a year's silence, and breadwinner Ben is less than pleased when his wife announces that after nineteen years of looking after her family she intends to return to work.
