Series 1:

After seven years in a high security prison, David Collins’ (Lee Ingleby) conviction for the murder of his wife, Tara, is overturned due to a technicality, or as his lawyer puts it “an appalling miscarriage of justice”.

As David vows to regain custody of his children and bring the guilty to justice, a new investigation headed by DI Cathy Hudson (Angel Coulby), causes dark secrets of abuse, affairs and money troubles to rise to the surface. Beneath it all one question remains: is David Collins truly innocent?

Series 2:

Five years ago teacher Sally Wright (Katherine Kelly) lost everything: her job, her marriage, her freedom. She was convicted of the murder of 16-year-old schoolboy Matty Taylor.

But now her guilty verdict has been revoked with irrefutable evidence of her innocence. Sally embarks on a quest for justice, and when a new investigation is launched those close to Matty increasingly come under scrutiny, exposing deeply buried secrets and hostilities which threaten to destroy the lives of those caught up in its wake.
