Richard Burton and Peter Firth star in this adaptation of the Peter Shaffer play directed by Sidney Lumet. Troubled teenager Alan Strang (Firth) has an obsessive relationship with horses that results in him blinding a number of horses at a local stable. Psychiatrist Dr Martin Dysart (Burton) is assigned with attempting to understand the boy's horse worship. However, as Martin gains Alan's trust and learns more about his obsession Martin realises that his own life has lacked passion.
