„Get Up! Stand Up!” präsentiert die Höhepunkte der Serie „The Human Rights Concerts“ zwischen 1986 und 1998. Diese Wohltätigkeitskonzerte fanden zugunsten der Menschenrechtsorganisation Amnesty International statt, die sogar bereits den Nobelpreis gewonnen hat. Die ersten Aufnahmen stammen von „A Conspiracy Of Hope”, Amnestys 25jähriger Jubiläumstour im Jahr 1986. Zwei Jahre später folgte „Human Rights Now!”, die legendäre Tournee mit 20 Konzerten durch fünf Kontinente. Fortgesetzt wurde die Serie mit dem Konzert „An Embrace Of Hope” in Chile im Jahr 1990 und mit „The Struggle Continues” in Paris 1998. Die Liste der involvierten Musiker umfasst Weltstars wie Bryan Adams, Joan Armatrading, Ruben Blades, Jackson Browne, Tracy Chapman, Miles Davis, Peter Gabriel, Bob Geldof, Fela Kuti, Wynton Marsalis, Alanis Morissette, Youssou N’Dour, Sinead O’Connor, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, The Police, Radiohead, Lou Reed, Carlos Santana, Bruce Springsteen, The E Street Band, Sting, Third World, U2 & Steven Van Zandt. Sie alle verbindet der Wunsch, ihre Zeit und ihre Kraft für die Ziele von Amnesty International einzusetzen und sich für Menschlichkeit und Gerechtigkeit zu engagieren. Ähnlich wie das sagenumwobene „Secret Policeman’s Ball” von Amnesty sorgte auch diese Serie für ein großes öffentliches Bewusstsein. Diese neue Veröffentlichung soll dabei helfen, die ehrenvolle Mission von Amnesty weiter zu unterstützen und Gelder für ihre Arbeit zu sammeln. „Get Up! Stand Up!
