British musical starring Will Hay, Helen Chandler and Clifford Mollison. When William Garland (Hay), Director General of the National Broadcasting Group, discovers that his programming is considered too high-brow for the general public he attempts to make amends and promotes Head of Complaints officer Jimmie (Mollison) to Programme Director. However, when Jimmie decides that a selection of musical variety acts will bring back their audiences he quickly learns that hiring the performers he wants will not be as easy he thinks.
