Collection of British war dramas. In 'The One That Got Away' (1957), after his plane is shot down over Britain, Lt. Franz von Werra (Hardy Krüger) is kept captive in the North of England and sets his sights on a cunning plan to escape the clutches of the British and make it back to his homeland. With the story of his escape reaching the news and the authorities beginning to close in on him, von Werra must act fast if he is to survive the shoot-to-kill order with his name on it and reach the sanctity and familiarity of Germany. In 'A Town Like Alice' (1956) a group of British POW women are led through the Malayan jungle by the Japanese during WWII. As a group they come to terms with the hardships they have to endure and are befriended by an Australian prisoner who dreams of returning to his home town, Alice Springs. 'Carve Her Name With Pride' (1958) depicts the true story of Allied spy Violette Szabo (Virginia McKenna), who parachuted into Nazi-occupied Europe during WWII. When her designated mission is unfortunately intercepted by German officers, she is captured and interrogated at Ravensbrück concentration camp. Finally, 'Old Bill and Son' (1941) follows Old Bill (Morland Graham), an ex-soldier who is proud and boastful of his service during the First World War. When his son, Young Bill (John Mills) is enlisted to fight against the Nazis, Old Bill decides to enlist too as a way of proving to himself and his family that he still has a lot of fight left in him.
