Two-part German drama centred around the story of Martin Luther (Maximilian Brückner), a revolutionary priest who transformed Christianity 500 years ago and paved the way of life for many people in Europe today. During a period of time when the Catholic Church maintained influence over people's private lives and opinions, Luther stirs controversy with his passionate speeches opposing corruption within the Church and the way in which it oppresses its believers.
