Double bill of films starring Jessie Matthews. In 'Friday the Thirteenth' (1933) it proves to be an unlucky day indeed for the passengers of a bus which swerves to avoid a crane struck by lightning. In the ensuing crash, two people die. The story then flashes back 24 hours to provide portaits of all those travelling on the bus. In 'First a Girl' (1935), Elizabeth (Matthews) delivers dresses for a dressmaker and while on an errand to a local theatre, she meets a female impersonator with laryngitis. He persuades her to take his place in a show, in which Elizabeth is an instant hit. Swept away on a tour of Europe, she is forced to maintain the pretence that she is a man.
