2004-05 saw Sunderland stride back into the Premier League as Champions of the Coca Cola Championship. Under Mick McCarthy, the Black Cats finished seven points clear of runners up Wigan after timing their run to the top impeccably, going to the top of the League just before Easter and staying there.
