Hedy West "is among the best women singers of the American folksong revival", volgens A.L. Lloyd. Geboren in de heuvels van Georgia (VS) heeft haar repertoire grotendeels bestaan uit de songs die ze van haar familie leerde. From Granmaw and Me is haar laatste project voor haar overlijden in 2005 en bevat uitsluitend liederen die uit Hedys familie komen. Haar oma heeft ze uitgezocht en af en toe van inleidingen voorzien.
