Murshidi and Sufi Songs

De Bengaalse ethnomusicoloog Deben Bhattacharya (1921-2001) werkte als radio-producer voor de BBC en werd internationaal gezien als een expert op het gebied van Indiase muziek, dans en poÙzie. Deze cd bevat veldopnames die hij gemaakt heeft in 2001, vlak voor zijn dood. Murshidi is afgeleid van het Arabische woord ershad en betekent raad geven. In feite waren Murshidi spirituele meesters die tot geen enkele religie behoorden. Hun oorsprong gaat terug tot het soefisme.
