Each episode tells a self-contained contemporary story in which the characters have reached a turning point in their lives and are trying to move on. McGovern's themes are dark and disturbingly close to home, the issues complex and provocative. They range from fatherhood and bullying to late-life romance; from teenage angst to painful truths.

The Rain Has Stopped - A widow falls for a retired Nepalese soldier against her family's wishes. Starring Sheila Hancock and Bhaskar Patel.

Bully - A tough father risks alienating his son forever. Starring Mark Womack, Lee Boardman and Julia Ford.

Drowning Not Waving - An old flame offers what feels like a way out when a woman is forced to sell her home. Starring Christine Tremarco and Richard Armitage.

Dress to Impress - When his family discover he's a cross-dresser, a teenager finds himself in turmoil. Starring Ian Hart and Dervla Kirwan.

Butterfly Effect - After a woman covers for a colleague at work she finds herself in a terrifying situation. Starring Lesley Sharp, Joanne Froggatt and Susan Cookson.

Jimmy McGovern's anthology series has been running since 2009 featuring Britain's top acting and writing talent, telling contemporary stories about people confronting the dilemmas life throws at them.
