PRODUKTBESCHREIBUNGEN
KURZBESCHREIBUNG
Tony Martin was.a Christmas baby, born Alvis Morris on December 25th 1913 in Oakland, California. He grew up high, wide and handsome, and that included his singing voice. However, in the beginning, he was a saxophonist in Tom Gerun s Orchestra, sitting beside a young Woody Herman. In 1934 he changed his name to Tony Martin and moved to Hollywood. His early vocal recordings were made with the Victor Young Orchestra in 1936 and plugged the songs which he sang in his first movies for RKO. In the early 1940s Tony sang and was Master of Ceremonies on the Andre Kostelanetz Orchestra radio show, 'Tune Up Time.' Tony was then drafted into the Army, in particular The Army Air Forces Band led by Captain Glenn Miller who thought Tony the most talented singer in the armed forces. Tony felt as though he had 'stumbled into heaven through the side door.' In Part 1 of this CD you can hear thirteen of the songs which Tony sang with Glenn Miller s AAF Band, whilst Part 2 shows how Tony's life and career took off after the War, including some of his biggest hits.
