The Official Review of the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans is ready to take your breath away. Nine manufacturers put cars on the packed grid for what was to prove a fast and thrilling race with an unexpected outcome. Porsche entered their mighty 911 GT1 in the GT class but aiming for the overall win. With a strong team of drivers including previous winners Hans-Joachim Stuck and Yannick Dalmas, Porsche were expected to do very well. McLaren s F1 GTR was well represented throughout the GT field with teams of various abilities looking to repeat the success of the British supercar s debut outing in 1995. Japanese hopes rested with Honda s impressive NSX line up, Nissan Skyline GT-Rs and SARD Toyota Supras and MC8-Rs. Joest Racing turned up with a revamped Jaguar XJR-14 with a Porsche engine and no roof from these unlikely beginnings a Le Mans legend was born.
