Harlem, New York. High-school basketball star Kyle (Duane Martin) is being scouted by representatives from some top college teams. He is eager to impress and hopes that college basketball will be his ticket to the NBA. But he is also seduced by the glamour of local drug dealer Birdie (Tupac Shakur) and begins playing on Birdie's side in the neighbourhood game. Former basketball star Shep (Leon) tries to persuade Kyle to focus his attention on his education, but the future of the young hopeful continues to sway in the balance.
