The Mainstream Bands

Het negende (en laatste) deel in de "At a Tangent" serie stelt de mainstream-bands uit de Britse jazz centraal. De term `Mainstream' werd in de vroege jaren `50 gemunt om een gearrangeerde stijl van jazz aan te duiden die ergens tussen trad/dixieland en bebop/modern zat. De belangrijkste exponent van deze stijl was Humphrey Lyttelton, maar er waren weinig andere bands op dit terrein. De cd bevat daarom ook bands die zich op de grens bevonden, bijv. beboppers als John Dankworth en John Cox.
